Beyond the classroom
As part of our commitment to a holistic education, Southlands students are offered a range of co curricular and extra curricular activities alongside planned off site learning opportunities.
We take full advantage of our fabulous location to enrich the curriculum offer. With the beach and forest on our doorstep and the iconic sights and museums of Rome just over half an hour away, it is easy to bring learning vividly to life. Our programme of trips and visits ranges from a morning in the local pineta to full day trips to the historic centre of Rome, or Florence. For older students, we run a programme of residential visits in and beyond Italy with a focus on culture, adventure or service.
Our Outdoor Education and Sport department has designed a programme which incorporates adventure sports into the Secondary sports curriculum. Students can expect to try a range of activities including hiking, kayaking, climbing, surfing and trail biking as they move up through the school. For younger students, there are Forest school sessions, where children explore the “wild” parts of our campus and beyond, learning to navigate, tie knots, build shelters and make fires. Through all these adventures our students gain confidence whilst also building their team working, problem solving and communication skills.
