We are delighted to offer Southlands' students In Years 6, 7 and 8 the chance to participate in our new Carnegie Book Club, in which students will have the chance to read some outstanding books that have been shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal
, one of the most prestigious children's book awards.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to broaden their engagement with literature by reading some challenging and thought-provoking books, which will not only develop their love of literature but also enable them to improve their command of English.
In order to support the transition for Year 6 students into Senior School, we have decided to create a Year 6 and 7 Book Club to create and strengthen the links between these students and encourage greater engagement with literature in the process. Our second Club will offer students in Year 8 the fantastic opportunity to strengthen their skills in literary analysis as they move towards their IGCSEs.
The students that participate will meet on a weekly basis during a break-time, in order to discuss what they have read, share their thoughts and responses to the book and take part in creative activities in relation to the text.
In order to maintain a safe social distance for the Book Club, there will be limited places available; to register your child's interest, please check your emails and inform the Office by Wednesday 31st March. This will enable us to commence the Southlands' Carnegie Book Club as soon as possible after the Easter holidays.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office who will be happy to help.
