3 - 4 Years Old

By concentrating on the individual needs of each child, our aim is to develop their social skills by appropriate play with the peer group, and by learning to share with others. Courtesy, consideration and care for others are important elements in a child’s life, providing them with an excellent foundation for later years.

Practical tasks are centred on the ability to carry out instructions, to sit, listen, take turns and to participate in group activities.

There are periods within the day for structural work and for freedom to choose activities; providing opportunities for experimentation, exploration and creativity. These include painting, shape making with dough, playing with sand and water and all craft work.

Children benefit from being members of a group, as this gives them a sense of belonging and security and helps them relate to other children.

All work and activities are adapted to suit the intellectual, emotional and social level of the children in small groups.

The classrooms are set with tables and chairs for activities such as jigsaws, playing with small toys, colouring, papercraft and more formal work activities. We have role-play areas such as a home corner, dressing-up box etc. in order to develop the child’s imagination. The classrooms are large enough for group activities such as singing and dancing.

Our gym provides a larger area for movement and music as well as apparatus work.

The children have their own independent garden and sand-pit play area where, during class times, they have guided activities, and free play times during breaks.

Pupils are served lunch at tables in a family way; teachers sit with them providing supervision and encouragement. Meals are prepared by our team of cooks on the premises, using mainly organically grown products. The diet is well-balanced and varied.

Contact between teachers and parents is vital at this stage; either by phone, note or appointment.

New Early Years Play Club

Children in the Nursery and Reception classes (3 to 4 years old) will have the opportunity to participate in a new activity after-school from 15.30 to 17.00.  Our youngest students will have the opportunity to continue the school day by taking part in playtime activities with an English mother-tongue teacher.
