Wednesday 8th March was an incredibly important day for the Southlands community. On campus, students and staff honoured the women in our community and around the world and welcomed the first signs of spring by celebrating the Holi Festival of Colours. Not too far from our campus, in the beautiful Villa Wolkonsky, which hosts the British Embassy in the very centre of Rome, Headteacher Mrs Del Federico, Vice Principal and Exam Officer Mrs Webster, Head of the Italian Department Ms Atturi, and students Lana and Carla were welcomed by Pearson and the inspiring Gisella Lange' for a most wonderful event.
The group spent the afternoon hearing about the latest European initiatives around language learning, updates from the Italian Ministry of Education and celebrating the achievements of phenomenal young women, including Southlands students Lana and Carla, who scored the highest grades in Italy in Edexcel IGCSE French and Science respectively.
Southlands Headteacher, Mrs Del Federico, said "It was great to celebrate all the amazing work done by exam officers, particularly over the past few years! Huge gratitude and respect to our Exam Officer, Mrs Webster, whose infinite calm, good humour and tremendous work ethic bring much needed solace to our exam season. Special thanks to Ms Atturi as well, who likewise leads with such compassion and diligence."
We are incredibly proud of the women in our community and are grateful for the wonderful opportunity we had to celebrate their successes and hear about other women's fantastic achievements in education.
